I had just enough time on Friday morning to walk around a little and take a few pictures (the weather was beautiful but without a cloud in the sky, the sun made it really difficult to take any decent pictures.)- I could easily spend a whole week exploring all of the little bricks roads and alleys downtown but I knew if I started walking down King, Todd wouldn't have ever been able to get me out of there.
Apple picking and leaf peeping were on the agenda for our trip to Asheville. We had mentioned to some friends of ours that we were thinking about going back to Mercier in Blue Ridge, Georgia to go apple picking but they suggested that we come up to Asheville to pick apples instead. I've wanted to see the leaves around Asheville anyway so off we went!
It was a perfect fall day- high 50's- perfect apple picking weather. We went up to Skytop Orchard with Dusty, Amy, and their adorable little boy. We were a little worried that there wouldn't be many apples left but luckily the trees were still pretty full.
As if the location was picturesque enough, the Model A Club from Columbia was at the orchard as well. All of their near cars lined up with the mountains and orchard in the background couldn't have been more perfect. I love this little old truck!
Then came the cider doughnuts. We don't have cider doughnuts in Florida. I've actually only had them once before when we were at Mercier but they weren't fresh.
Todd waited in line for probably an hour and a half for these dang doughnuts and they were so worth it! They were literally pulling them right out of the fryer and boxing them up. They were so perfectly light and fluffy! It's probably a good thing we don't have these in Florida!
I need to figure out what I'm going to do with all of these apples now.....I see a lot of apple canning in my future!

Yay you came to Asheville! We live here (and are from here) and love it. The leaves have been really pretty this week - I think you came at just the right time.
ReplyDeleteDid you do anything else fun while you were in town? There are tons of great restaurants.
We did! We went to dinner at Tupelo Honey Cafe, Salsa. had drinks at Sazerac, BG Road, and Lab. We also went to the Chocolate Lounge after dinner one night.
DeleteMG Road is new and it's really good. We went there for drinks the other night - it's so pretty inside.
DeleteYes, MG Road! :) Oops! We were there on Saturday to get away from the Oktoberfest shenanigans going on out front!
DeleteI love the Asheville area. I would love to live there someday. Cider doughnuts are the best! We used to get fresh ones from Cider Mills when we lived in Michigan. It is a shame we don't have them here in FL.
ReplyDeleteWhat awesome pics! My hometown is about 45 min away from Asheville - seeing your pics makes me miss home! So glad you all had a fun trip!
ReplyDeleteYour trip sounds great! I love living in WPB in terms of its convenience for other Florida destinations, but not so much for everywhere else. Our Greenmarket down here has apple cider doughnuts every Saturday. Those little goobers are hard to resist!
ReplyDeleteIn a dream world, we'd live in Atlanta because it's such an easy drive to the places we love to visit most. Luckily Jacksonville is only 3.5 hours to Charleston which is really all I care about. :)
DeleteThose donuts look amazing! I absolutely love the south in the fall. There is no where else like it!
ReplyDeleteApple donuts. Miss those so much.
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures and especially your outfit! Where are the pants from? When we went apple picking it was approximately 95* but at least Samma looked cute running through the trees...
ReplyDeleteAh Charleston! It looks like you had a great time! I love your outfit.
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit. Perfect for fall apple picking! Where is your shirt from?
