Update via iPhone Photos

I've really been working hard getting the downstairs put together so while I've got some bigger decor posts in the works I wanted to share a little update (via my iphone pictures) with y'all.  Nothing groundbreaking- just what we've been up to lately.

Last week I made BBQ shrimp and grits for dinner.  I prefer BBQ shrimp and grits over the regular kind with sausage and gravy.  To make this I just wrapped shrimp in 1/3 slice of bacon and stuck them on skewers. Broiled them in the oven until the shrimp were pink and the bacon was crisping up.  Poured BBQ sauce in a cast iron skillet and laid the shrimp skewers in it to coat them.  Served over grits.  So simple and really good.  This is the first time I've added bacon and I think it really made it.

Last night Todd switched out the ugly builder grade light fixture in the dining room for me.  I have had my eye on one for awhile now and it randomly went on sale so I snatched it up.  The good news is no one was electrocuted.  The bad news is Todd probably wanted to hang me from the chandelier at least once.  I'll take pictures this weekend so I can show you the progress.  I think the dining room is becoming my favorite room.

Last weekend Todd brought me a pie pumpkin and asked me to bake him a pumpkin pie.  I have made more pumpkin pies than I can count but I've never used a fresh pumpkin- always canned.  There really honestly wasn't much to it.  I couldn't tell much of a difference between fresh and canned pumpkin but Todd thought it was a lot better.  Y'all give it a try and let me know what you think.

Along with the pie pumpkin, he brought a car load of decorative pumpkins, Indian corn, gourds, and wheat.  I have been talking about how much I wanted to decor the porch for fall so I thought it was really sweet when he showed up with a bunch of stuff he had picked out.

This is Wesley.  He just showed up at my house one day a few months ago and hasn't left since.  He is the sweetest most affectionate cat I have ever seen.  I started feeding him (probably why he never left) because the lady across the street said that he would try to eat her cats food and she would push him away.  He stays outside most of the time- he sleeps on the front or back porch literally all day long and waits for me to come home but I do let him come in for a few hours at night.  He jumps right up in my lap and curls up in a ball.  So somehow I've ended up with a very sweet cat.

These are the little fall flower pots that I made.  I love pansies! And that creeping jenny in the front is so fun!

Have a great weekend, y'all!

  1. I love the photo updates - I know some I have seen via Twitter/Instagram but I love hearing the story behind some of the pics. The flower pot looks so cute, I love layers when potting. And Todd is so wonderful for going shopping for your porch! It is the little things, right?

  4. Love the updates, can't wait to see the new light fixture! Amazing what a little swap out will do! That little kitty is adorable. Kinda weird how homey a pet can make your house feel! I wanted to try a pie pumpkin for pumpkin soup, good to know there isn't much to it!
