On our way home from visiting Todd's family this past weekend we drove through Thomasville, Georgia. We don't usually take that route so it's been years since I've driven through Thomasville. We originally planned to stop for dinner at one of the neat little restaurants downtown but everything was closed so we settled for BBQ on the way out of town. We did take a little time to drive around and look at the beautiful houses though.
There was one street in particular that had these huge, stately homes of big lots. I'd take any of them in a heartbeat but this one.....
I don't know if a house could be more perfect! I made Todd drive by it again and again so I could take more pictures. I really hope no one saw me with my paparazzi camera. The wrap around porch, the porte cochere (!!!), the brick steps, the widows walk. It's just unreal!
Here she is again from the side. Look at that amazing gas lantern! Most of the homes of this street had gas lanterns. My next house will have them. No negotiations.
And from the other side...
This house, to me, looks like it belongs in the Hamptons. Not your typical Georgia-style architecture but there is something about it I really love. It does need gas lanterns though.
I swear this house has been on the cover of Southern Living. Not quite as stately as The Perfect House down the street but beautiful nonetheless. It's got a porte cochere which is always a plus.

Hi! I'm from Thomasville. We do have some beautiful homes. I used to work for the Historical Society/Museum of History, so I wanted to let you know that the Historical Society and Thomasville Landmarks are now in the process of having a coffee table book made with all of the historical homes (Victorian, antebellum, and plantation homes) with exterior and interior shots. So next time you are passing through, it should be published and you can pick up a copy! Don't know if you have ever seen the Madison, GA book that their Historical Society did, but it will be similar and the perfect Southern book to have on your bookshelf or coffee table :)Love your blog, btw!
ReplyDeleteThese houses are absolutely gorgeous! Guess I'll have to get my hubby to start looking at jobs near Thomasville :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be down in Thomasville later this fall for work. I'll have to do some house stalking while I'm down there!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness these pictures are gorgeous! I have never been there before. xo
ReplyDeleteThanks for this post. Thomasville is now on my itinerary for our upcoming travel through the Deep South in four (!) weeks.
ReplyDeleteLove how you just can fall in love with a house, don't you?? I would build me something simular. It would be the most photographed house in the Netherlands where no house like that excist......
I swear, I thing I was a Southern Belle in a former life.....

ReplyDeleteI just love wandering through an area and marveling at the architecture. It's something the hubs and I do often asking each other what we like the most about houses we pass. It makes decorating our current house quite a challenge!
ReplyDeleteThese houses are gorgeous! I keep saying one day I'm going to own my a beautiful antebellum home one day...maybe when I hit the lottery! I love your blog and the fact that it celebrates all things Southern!

Very pretty! I love all of these.
ReplyDeleteI love Thomasville! It is such a beautiful little city. Even their Courthouse is pretty. Did you go to Pebble Hill Plantation? You'd probably flip over how pretty and Southern it is! It reminds me of another city you posted a few months ago - the avg income in Thomasville is quite low and then you have to wonder how they really afford the fab houses - the disparity in the county is massive (like median income is only 35k or something? For the city it is worse - like 15k per capita.).
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful houses!!! I too love the gas lanterns sooo charming
