{Faked} Hand Addressed Envelopes
I've been looking for a calligraphy class in my town for a little while now but haven't been able to find one. I don't really need to learn calligraphy but it would be nice to know how to address an envelope with those beautiful loopy letters especially if I ever get around to sending Christmas cards. I watched a bunch of YouTube instruction videos and I was all set to head to Hobby Lobby to buy calligraphy pens when I stumbled onto the easiest, most obvious, method of them all. I cannot for the life of me find the original source, I wish I could. This isn't even a "method". It's a complete cheater, cheater pumpkin eater way to have gorgeous hand-addressed envelopes.
Find a font that you love. Type your text and change the font to a very light grey (or dark if you're printing on dark paper/envelopes). Print it on whatever paper/envelope you want.
And just trace over the printed text with a good felt tip pen like Le Pen or Staedtler. DUH, right?? I did it a few times on plain white paper so I could get used to making the letters. They're much easier to trace if you're familiar with them. They don't have to be perfect- little imperfections make it look original.
If you're using dark paper you could use a white or metallic pen. Sorry for the grainy picture- who knew a brown envelope was so hard to photograph!
Done. Beautifully hand addressed envelopes that didn't cost $3 a piece.

ReplyDeleteGreat cheat! I was somewhat self taught at calligraphy using books when I was in my early teens. I plan to take this 30 day online course offered by Melissa Esplin to learn modern calligraphy: http://istilllovecalligraphy.com//
