One of my favorite bloggers, Tessa from Nine and Sixteen, made a fantastic tissue paper flower pom wreath for a shower that she hosted. I pinned it as a reminder that I wanted to make one like it but was waiting for an occasion. With Memorial Day and the Forth of July within a few weeks of each other, my red, white and blue wreath will get a pretty good run.
Tessa does a great job showing the steps of making the paper flowers. I followed her steps except I skipped wrapping the form with cloth (because it's white) and instead of gluing my poms in place, I stuck a floral pin through the wire and stuck the pin into the form.
I took it apart and reworked the order of the poms a few times so the pins worked best for me. I made 4 big poms and filled in the holes with the smaller ones. I absolutely love the way it turned out! It doesn't go with my maroon door (my house has a craftsman style to it so the colors are a little...different.) but I still love it. I got all of my supplies at Hobby Lobby and there is a coupon on their website!

It is GORGEOUS!!! I would love to make one but worry about the humidity "wilting" the tissue paper here-- would you do a follow-up to let us sauna-dwellers know how it fares in the wet air? If it's sturdy I'm going to be a copycat! :)
ReplyDeleteYes! I wonder the same thing but think that because it's covered by a big porch, it won't fade or wilt too badly. If I know a big storm is coming, I'll bring it inside.
DeleteThat is super cute!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! Perfect for the Diamond Jubilee too! Xoxo
ReplyDeleteLove it! I've made a similar wreath but glueing cupcake wrappers as the flowers. How many bags of tissue paper did you use?
ReplyDeleteugh, i want one. i bet i could make one with the leftover poms from the shower i hosted, but they are HUGE. All that's missing from the first pic are the KITTIES on the front porch!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I may steal this idea- I've been looking for a cute patriotic wreath for our front door!
ReplyDeleteoh my goooodness that turned out sooooooo stinkin' cute! love it! so fun to make isn't it?!

I love this. I'm terrible at crafting, but I think I could manage this.
ReplyDeleteBeing on an outside door in the hot and humid weather, the tissue paper might bleed or stain your door...do you think putting a layer of plastic behind the wreath would prevent this problem? Check out some of our wreath hangers and accessories at yourwreathshop.com.
