Look At My Garden Grow!

We've spent the past three weekends or so working outside.  It's 84 degrees here today so I think it's safe to say, spring has arrived!

One of the (many) benefits of having a boyfriend who can grow virtually anything and loves playing in the dirt is that I now have two big garden boxes in my backyard!  He bought the wood and built the boxes himself and then planted all of the seeds, waited for them to sprout and then transplanted them to the big boxes.  I'm not even going to pretend to take the credit for anything we've got growing.  I may have picked a few of the vegetables but they'd probably already be dead if I was the one in charge.  I can barely grow flowers.

I am really looking forward to cooking with things we've grown in our own garden.  Pickles and pickled okra are at the top of my list.  And tomato sandwiches!

We've got radishes, a few different kinds of peas, cucumbers, 4 different bell peppers, banana peppers, several different types of tomatoes, carrots, onions, rosemary, romaine lettuce, collards, asparagus, dill....I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

I'd also really love to have a potting bench for the back porch.  Right now all of our extra pots and tools are just sitting around so I'd love a bench to organize it all.

It'd also be great for parties...to use as an outdoor buffet.  I've always loved this one we spotted at the Southern Living Idea House in Senoia, Georgia.

  1. OMGosh! Your garden post puts mine to shame! Are you going to plant any herbs?! I tried tomatoes last season and it was a fail! I have a lot to learn from you!

  2. Adorable garden! I can't wait to have a garden in our new house! Last year's balcony garden was a flop.

  7. They look great. I have been wanting to start growing some things and have been talking to every one I know about it. Tryng to find out what and how and all that to do this. Tomorrow I'm going to buy some tomatoe plants and maybe some bell peppers. My goal is to grow okra and squash too. Good luck with yours.

  8. Love that table, even if I'd use it for grilling and not plant growing. I have the worst black thumb!
