Very, very slowly this house will come together. I have committed myself to finish each room completely before I move on to another room so that I don't have a bunch of rooms missing their finishing touches. I probably should have started somewhere other than the living room/dining room because they need a lot. First of all, I hate my couch in here. It's always been a horribly uncomfortable couch but now that it matches the floor, I dislike it even more. To Craig's List it will go! I have picked out a new beautiful tufted couch, ordered fabric samples (stock picture...not my fabric choice) and I think I'm ready to pull the trigger.
I just don't know if I want 2 couches and 2 chairs, a couch and 2 chairs, 2 couches and no chairs. The coffee table too, that's going. I need a bigger TV (which is why mine isn't hung yet, it's just sitting up on the mantle) and an area rug, too. The fan will probably go- I think it needs a pretty chandelier.
A lady in my neighborhood came over this Sunday to measure the big front window for drapes. Matching drapes will also go on all 3 windows in the dining room. Hopefully those will be back to me in a week or two.
The chairs in the dining room need to be reupholstered. I need to make up my mind about a mirror for above the buffet. A chandelier will replace that ugly contractor's grade light fixture above the table. And a gallery wall opposite the buffet. I haven't found anything I even remotely like for that wall!
I barely have any Christmas decorations up because I know they'll just come down in a few weeks and I'll be left with an even more empty space. Hopefully I'll have the tree up by the end of the week. I did manage to get a magnolia leaf wreath on my door. My porch is still with out urns of flowers, garland, or rocking chairs. Again, hopefully this weekend.
My flower beds need flowers. I would love to have my house numbers painted on the transom above the door. And we haven't even begun on the kitchen/breakfast room/downstairs bath or upstairs! There are empty flower pots everywhere, bolts of fabric stuffed in closets. I wish I could snap my fingers and have it all done but I'm afraid it's going to take much, much longer than that. I'll share more specific details (and better pictures) as I finish them.
This weekend is the Holiday Home Tour which I'm obviously not a part of. Maybe next year!

ReplyDeleteIt's looking great, but I agree - wish any time I moved or decided to redecorate I could snap my fingers to the end result! It will get there.
ReplyDeleteWho makes the new couch? I love it!
I'm so in love with your home! Enjoy the time off from the holiday hussle and bussle...I'm in the same boat you are! With our first baby on the way and home projects galore to do before she arrives in april, my tree is still sitting in the corner of the living room, NAKED! Enjoy the moment you're in...
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful day, sweetie! xoxo
Beautiful! I love the way you styled the shelves! BTW, did you mention where you got the crab pillows? Love them!!!
ReplyDeleteI just love the interior architecture of your home. I would smile each day I walked through the door. I'm obsessed with the character of older homes. You can't find that with new builds. I love the idea of two matching sofas facing one another with a silver/glass table in the middle. Wonder if there have been any books published about "haint blue porches" (complete with gorgeous photos of course) - would make a great coffee table book! :)
ReplyDeleteSHUT UP!!! This is absolutely gorgeous! Love it - so very happy for you!
ReplyDeleteAnd, coming from the owner of a large sectional, I vote for a couch and two chairs - with a small table between the two chairs....and maybe without a coffee table... or with? Haha! My best friend just bought a home with a living room similar to yours (and a couch almost identical to the one you've picked out) and did the layout I described above with a jute rug and it is beautiful!!
Can't wait to see more as everything progresses.
CONGRATS - such a fun (yet overwhelming) time, I know!
