Happy Fall, Y'all!

Let's imagine for a minute that it's not September and 85 degrees outside. Let's imagine it's November and I live somewhere other than Florida where there are actually seasons and beautiful red and orange leaves on the trees. I now live somewhere where I have to lug around a winter coat in the mall while Christmas shopping, drink caramel apple cider without it making me sweat and can write my name in the frost on the window. Florida just flat out stinks this time of year. Luckily, there are a few trips in the near future and hopefully I'll get to see some leaves!
While I'm not a big fall decor person (it just doesn't look right with the rest of my decor and we all know I'm a little anal about everything matching), I love white pumpkins.
Today, I glittered pumpkins a la Martha Stewart. I bought fake pumpkins ("funkins") at JoAnn's because I wanted to be able to use them next year as well. Martha Stewart makes the best glitter. It feels like powder! It's also about $546 an ounce. I used a foam brush to cover the pumpkins with glue and then covered them (and my kitchen) with glitter. Don't use too much glue or it'll slide right off your pumpkin...not that I would know. I'm just assuming that's what would happen. For my first attempt, I'm pleased. I'll probably give it another go and try spray adhesive. These (along with some candles) would make such a pretty centerpiece for a Thanksgiving table!
The silver glitter shows up so much better in pictures but the white is just as pretty. I'm sure I'll move them around a few times before I get them where I want them. I still haven't figured out how to make a fall wreath with starfish...

Last year, Natalie from The Brocks Rock let us all in on a little (and ridiculous cheap) secret. Wal-Mart has the best fall candles. Usually cheap candles don't put out enough scent but these, which run $3-5, smell so good! I love the mulled cider and pumpkin spice but there are a few other fall scents.

Completely off topic but worth noting...I got a thank you card in the mail today. Not just any thank you card...a handwritten thank you card from Lands End Canvas. I ordered something from them a few weeks ago and was completely shocked when I opened this in the mail today. I think a lot of companies should take note. This was the first time I had ever ordered from them (I loved what I bought, by the way) and wouldn't hesitate to order from them again...especially with such great customer service!

  2. I too am a fanatic when it comes to matching. I was trying to think of an "elegant" way to decorate for the fall and this is PERFECT. I guess you could even do green or red glittered pumpkins depending on your homes décor. I will def let you know if and when I do this!

P.S. I totally understand the heat thing; the worst part of being in the south is the fall/ winter.

  8. Mulled Cider is the best candle from Walmart and it's so cheap and only here for one season so I stock up!

  10. I got a card from them too! I was so shocked! My fave fall candle is Farmer's Market by Yankee, and it lasts forever. But I agree about the Wal-Mart candles - they are great for the price and aren't so strong that they give me a headache.

  12. I love the fall candles from Wal-mart too! And I especially love that you can peel that little tacky label right off unlike the Yankee candles!

  13. While I do enjoy LE Canvas, Nordstrom has always sent me thank you cards for years. As has my Neiman Marcus lady! But it is nice that stores are doing it still...

I think Hopsy did something about pumpkins last year - I never had time to do it them, but seeing how well yours turned out has really inspired me to try them out again. I am definitely going to do it now!

  14. I've heard that Martha's glitter is the best, and the pumpkins look fantastic! I am sure the white and silver looks great with everything else in your home. I will be running to walmart asap to pick up some of those candles. I am currently loving a paula deen one that is great, but it is $10.

  21. Those pumpkins look GREAT! I am going to have to copy that look -- what a great idea! I am not much for the black and orange Halloween decor, so I think this is a great alternative.

  25. These are my fall traditions! I always glitter pumpkins the first weekend in October (I use real ones but really should do fake ones! Then I can re-use too...) and I have been burning these candles for years. Who would have thought?? $3.00 and they make me so happy! Mulled Cider is my favorite! Love how your pumpkins turned out.
