Not your mother's Talbots

I can't say that I've ever even set foot in a Talbots. My mother surely doesn't shop there considering she buys flip flops at Walgreens if she likes them but that's beside the point. I stumbled across the Talbots Fall 2010 Look Book and oh. my. goodness. I have to tell you, I haven't even been in a J.Crew in a while, nor trolled the website. The prices have become outrageous, the quality has declined, things never look the same after they've been washed, and I'm tired of steaming ruffles on my t-shirts. I will GLADY go to Talbots as soon as these beautiful things come out...

Isn't it gorgeous!? I love every outfit! No socks and heels here! It looks like a real "feel pretty" collection unlike J.Crews "look of death" inspired by Grey Gardens. I think I will need those patent heels in every color.

  2. thier shoes are great. My mother is really rough on shoes and theirs will last her a year which is a huge accomplishment for her.
They really have uped the style at Talbot's. I can't wait for them to hit the stores now.

  3. I was looking at Talbots the other day (not sure how I ended up on their site) and was pleasantly surprised too.

  4. Not to mention EVERY J. Crew cardigan I own has a freakin' hole in it. So annoying!

A friend of mine shops there a lot. She always looks gorgeous and stylish.

  6. wow Talbouts has really updated! Looks like I need to make a stop. They do seem to have really cute work stuff lately and Mrs Obama wears Talbots.

  7. I love Talbots. My mother has shopped there for years and I've seen the transformation - more and more times recently I've had a pile of stuff in the dressing room with her!

Their stuff is such good quality too. She has pieces that are ten years old and still look great, classic style is timeless!

  8. My mom shops there religiously, haha. The last time I went shopping with her, I was pleasantly surprised!

  9. I totally agree with you about J.Crew. They went a little grunge or something. I have a Talbots near me and I have never been in there. I'll have to check it out. Those outfits are too cute!

  12. I have had things from Talbots in the past. I think they are hit or miss. Pretty fun stuff one year, dumpy, ugly granny school marm clothes the next... but cute stuff!

  13. 100% agree on all counts. J. Crew has gone the way of waifs wearing clothes their original clientele would never buy. Talbots is precious!

  14. I agree with your take on J.Crew. They've really gone away from the classic looks that I yearn for. Thank goodness Talbots has stepped up their game. I love that they're classic, but not too dated. You have to be careful with some of their pieces, but there are some real jems!

  15. Way cute stuff! I haven't been to Talbots either, but I will need to check it out after seeing this! Have a great week! ~andrea

  17. Totally agree, Jcrew has become really disappointing. Yay for Talbots! I can't wait to go check their stuff out, never would have thought about them. Thanks for the tip!

  18. you are right, :not your mother's Talbots". When I was much smaller, I remember my mom dragging me to Talbots and her old catalogs. This is very different. Very nice. I love those shoes :)

  19. Talbots is pulling an Ann Taylor, and Ann Taylor went J.Crew. I stopped shopping at J.Crew a while ago for the same reasons you listed.

I remember back in college this girl said "Ann Taylor sells grandma clothing". She shops there now. I predict the same thing will happen with Talbots and Lands End.

  21. I have worn Talbots to school since some of the stuff is school-appropriate. Their spring stuff is so stinkin' cute, and it looks like their fall stuff is, too :)

  22. Hi! I have never looked on Talbots before, but I am headed that way now. Love your new look and the inspiration room behind it all. Great color scheme. Hope your having a wonderful week! xoxo

  23. A Talbots is across the street from our house ... I may have to wander over and see how their spring/summer stuff looks because that fall line is fantastic! Given I have "mom" hips without being a mom, it could be great :)

  24. I thought Talbots was for old ladies! I'll have to pop in really soon! Thanks for the tip

  26. Thanks so much for posting these pictures. I echo everyone's comments about J. Crew and Ann Taylor/Ann Taylor LOFT. Really excited to have a new place to find classic clothing at decent prices.

  29. I felt the same as you about Talbot's and feel the same as you now. I actually bought a couple really cute things there in the past month or so. I can't wear their pants, but love their dresses and shoes!

  30. I just rediscovered Talbots - as in, haven't walked in since I was shopping with my Mom for her. I'm actually wearing a Talbots dress today and love it! Such cute and affordable classics.

  31. I'm not trying to be rude or mean, but I used to love your blog & follow it but lately it feels like an ode to rampant consumerism & conspicuous consumption. I loved reading about your adventures. Don't you have something more interesting to write about than spending money?

  33. grits, maybe you could write about one of these topics to appease the above commenter:
finding your way in the world, your Interests BUT ONLY IF THEY ARE: feminist theory, current events, literature, and figuring out where you are in life.

this is just a suggestion ;)

  34. Oh my gosh I had no idea. What a great suggestion, I would never thought to check out Talbots. Now to figure out where the local store even is!

  35. Thanks for sharing your views of J.Crew. I have felt the same way for some time and wondered if it was just me? Guess not. Talbots has always been a favorite place for me to shop and daydream.

  36. Oh my gosh... my mom used to shop at Talbots and even she stopped because they got too "old lady-ish"!

Good to see they have revamped themselves!! I can't wait to check it out!

  40. I have been shopping pretty frequently at Talbots for the past couple of years. I am lucky enough to have a Talbots outlet about 45 minutes from me. The quality of their clothes is great! I have also bought some leather purses and get compliments on all of them. Not a logo in sight, just good classic lines.

  44. You are so right Grits. I worked at the mall last year and walked by the Talbots window each day to work. I was impressed many a times by really cute cardigans and trendy looking summer dresses. Talbots might be the new hot spot at the mall.

  45. oh my goodness is right! WOW I love all these looks! And you're totally right about JCrew what a disappointment boooooo

  46. I feel like my secret is out..I have been loving Talbots for such a long time. Yes their are a few items that are designed for more "mature" ladies. But look past them and they have great clothes.

  47. I loved this whole look book, as well as the spring look book. Unfortunately I'm forced to shop J. Crew since they carry XS, 0 and 2. Talbots sizing is way too big for me.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Gorgeous! Can't wait to see it all IRL. Do you have a link to the Look Book? When I go on their website, I'm only seeing the current summer one? TIA!

  49. I wandered into Talbots last week in a desperate attempt to find a dress for my twins' baptism. I was pleasantly shocked at some of the beautiful items they had.
